Diving Instructor Nichole Apperson hasn‘t received the Entrepreneur of the Year award. At least not yet, anyway. But she may well be on her way. Still in her twenties, she is working on her fourth and fifth business start-ups at the same time, and based on past performance, there is no reason to think she won’t succeed. In her own words she admits her addiction is starting businesses. “I can’t help it,” says Nichole. “It’s like how most people are with caffeine, I have to have it. I have to get my hands in the next brilliant idea I come up with. I think I need to join an Entrepreneur anonymous, of course we wouldn‘t want to be anonymous, would we?” Nichole would have a hard time remaining anonymous, at least in the business world. She got her start as a young child selling rocks she had colored. Her pitch to prospective customers? Her rocks were better not only because they were colored, but they were colored by her!The real businesses began to take shape just before Nichole graduated with her B.S. in Business, Management & Administration, from Indiana University, when she started pet grooming her senior year and fell in love with it. A year later, she started Pet Palace Mobile Grooming Spa, and quickly became the most sought after groomer in the area. For two solid years she built the cliental up and then talked her parents into moving and helping here start her dream business, Pet Palace Resort & Spa, an upscale pet resort located in Granger, Indiana. A year later, after two horrible experiences buying property, Nichole decided she would get her real estate licenses and become and independent agent for Century 21-Goldstar specializing in vacation & international property. “I like it,” says Nichole, “but haven’t had the chance to do a lot with it yet, because I‘ve been going to instructor’s school for diving in Florida. I’m a scuba instructor & an Emergency First Response instructor (Emergency First Response Primary (CPR) and Secondary CPR & first aid). Hopefully, by the end of the summer, I should have a MSDT (master scuba diver trainer) instructors certificate.” Which, of course naturally led to Nichole’s fourth & fifth businesses and closely held passion: SCUBA Diving. The first is Reef Rendezvous, Scuba Instruction & Excursions. The second is ScubaCupid.com an online dating site for scuba divers. “Working with the animals, I have found that I love teaching people the things I‘m passionate about. Whether its teaching employees how to do their job (grooming & kennel techs), or pet owners about grooming, health concerns, & behavior, its energizing to educate people on things that are interesting or concerning to them. I love diving and wish that everyone had the opportunity to get to experience our oceans in that way. Nothing is better than being in pure silence, 40 feet under with the “sea residence“. Scuba diving is a hobby that can last a lifetime. It can range from relaxing: looking at the vibrant colors of the coral, the exquisite formations of the reefs, to the funny fish playing tag, all the way to extreme adrenaline rush of shark diving. The options are endless.
